Consultant for Bilingual Remote Counseling/Capacity Building
Brief Project Overview:
Lone Star Victims Advocacy Project (LSVAP) seeks a social work consultant to provide emergency phone counseling to immigrant victims of domestic violence, to aid in ensuring that LSVAP staff is a trauma-informed work place, and to originate, structure and build an internship program to ensure that bilingual phone counseling is available to immigrants in rural areas.
Background:
Lone Star Victims Advocacy Project’s mission is to educate, advocate for, and provide free legal services to empower abused immigrants living in rural Texas. Our program is structured so that even though our office is in Austin, we are able to remotely serve 80 rural counties in Northeast and Central Texas. Our legal staff helps our clients so obtain protection from deportation, and the right to be and work legally in the United States. We also use each legal case we come across as a means of discovering what resources communities in our service area may lack, and then advocating so that the next immigrant survivor can access life saving help.
There are few bilingual counselors available to help the immigrants with which our program works. Those that do exist sometimes charge - which our indigent clients cannot afford, even on a sliding scale - or are affiliated with shelters located far away from where our clients reside. By building an effective MSW internship program, it is LSVAP’s goal to ensure that our clients have access to this key piece of the healing process. Whomever is hired for this consultant position will be an integral part of building that successful resource.

Emergency Counseling For Clients:
